Michael Pratt is the composer-in-residence of the Adrian Symphony Orchestra which has commissioned several orchestral works and the opera Madame Puccini.
He holds degrees from The University of Toledo and The University of Michigan where he studied with Pulitzer Prize winning composers Ross Lee Finney and Leslie Bassett. In addition to opera he has written extensively for orchestra, band, chorus, and smaller ensembles.
As a tuba player he has performed with The Toledo Symphony, Toledo Concert Band, Toledo Opera, University of Toledo Faculty Brass Quintet, Adrian Chamber Brass, Adrian College Faculty Brass Quintet, and since 1981 with the Adrian Symphony Orchestra.
As a singer he has performed with The Toledo Choral Society, Toledo Symphony Chorale, Opera!Lenawee, and The University Musical Society Choral Union of The University of Michigan with whom he has performed with The Ann Arbor Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, The Detroit Symphony Orchestra under Neeme Jarvi, The Russian National Orchestra, The San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson-Thomas, The Gabrieli Consort, and The Tallis Scholars.
Michael Pratt is an individual and composer member of Opera America and a member of ASCAP.
