Maple City (orchestra version)
A traditional, quick-step, circus-style march following the style of Sousa, King, and Goldman, Maple City was commissioned by the City of Adrian, Michigan for the Adrian City Band, Dr. Richard E. Barber, conductor, for the city's 1975 sesquicentennial celebration. Maple City, the official march of the City of Adrian, Michigan, has been a signature piece for the Adrian City Band ever since.
Orchestrated in 1992 for the Adrian Symphony Orchestra, David Katz, conductor, Maple City has become somewhat of a signature piece for that organization as well, being selected as the concluding track on the Adrian Symphony Orchestra's first CD recording, released for Christmas, 1998.
Maple City follows the standard march form of introduction, first strain, second strain, trio, and break-up strain. Each section is strongly melodic and rhythmical with plenty of counter-melodies and obbligatos which, according to one flute player, include nearly every trill possible for the instrument.
Duration: 2 1/2 minutes. The score and parts (printed with Finale) for both band and orchestra are available for performance. For further information contact the composer below.
